FlaSEREF Announces New SunCatcher Grant Program

The Florida Solar Energy Research and Education Foundation (FlaSEREF) is pleased to announce that its contract with the Governor’s Energy Office will now provide grants to their SunCatcher target market. This market includes hotels, restaurants and condominium associations. The grants break out as follows:
1. Solar Water Heating – $50/1,000 BTU – $15,000 cap
2. Solar Pool Heating – $2,500 Fixed – $2,500/installation
3. Photovoltaics – $60/1,000 Watt – $1,500 cap
The total available grant budget is $584,000 and is only available until the end of May 2010. Their goal is to encourage the installation of these technologies, particularly solar water heating, by reducing the cost of the system to Florida businesses. Their intent was to structure the grants in such a way that would effectively equalize the per kW buy-down between PV and solar water heating. Since the program is structured as a grant, the business will not be required to reduce the system cost when calculating the amount of the federal investment tax credit. UMA Solar Expands Online!

UMA has now expanded its online presence to Facebook and Twitter!

Founded in February 2004, Facebook is a social utility that helps people communicate more efficiently with their friends, family and co-workers. Anyone can sign up for Facebook and interact with the people they know in a trusted environment. Facebook is a part of millions of people’s lives all around the world.

Similarly, Twitter is a service for friends, family, and co–workers to communicate and stay connected through the exchange of quick, frequent answers to one simple question: “What are you doing?” Twitter is the opposite of information overload, restricting all posts to a maximum 140 characters.

Heliocol at The Venetian, Las Vegas

Heliocol Green Energy just finished a great job at one of Las Vegas’ premiere luxury hotels: The Venetian!

The system is a closed loop install with 364 HC-50 panels running a 5% glycol solution through them. They are tied into three heat exchangers to supply heat alternately to the pools, the spas and the domestic hot water. A computerized system determines where the greatest demand is, and regulates it accordingly.

Congratulations to the entire team at Heliocol Green Energy on another fantastic job!
